i got towed

On February 14th, my car broke down. On the side of the freeway. During morning rush hour. Call in the tow truck. I had it towed and a new engine coil put in. I got a call around 2pm that day saying it was only going to cost $125. Done!! I can handle that. I went to pick it up that night. Right as the garage was closing. I drove about 2 blocks and.... sputter, sputter... die. Once again, I call the tow truck. (by the way, each time you have your car towed, it is $60.) As the 2nd tow truck shows up and is loading my car onto the truck, the guy says, "has this car ever been towed before?" My response?? "Uh, yes. 10 hours ago.....". To which he replies, "Oh boy, a good Valentine's Day for you, huh? I am assuming you are single, there isn't anyone with you." Yes, thanks Bud. That made my day much better.

So car in the shop AGAIN. This time my ... well... something something engine power plug.... Flex capacitor... is replaced. $175. I pick it up. Awesome! The car is running great. Until Friday night on my way home and the car completely looses power and the engine light comes on. Terrific. (Thank you to my VT for the help and rides! You two are amazing.) So, I take it in again! This time it is spark plugs. $70.

Fast forward Hmmm.... 4 days. I pull into my garage and shut off the car, and I can hear boiling sounds. I pop the hood, and my coolant is boiling out of my overflow. Yay. Next morning, it over heats and I take it to a NEW mechanic. He says my cooling fans are not working. $210. I pick it up... take it home, and the boiling it still going on. I take it back and he says it is the radiator cap and he says that there is a huge oil leak. (that would explain the oil spots on my drive way!) $200 and my car now works. So if you figure it out, I have had my car for 9 days over the past month. The other 21 days, it has been in a mechanic shop.

I can think of a lot of other things I would have rather used the money on. Keep your fingers crossed for my little car.

am I famous?

I admit it. I spend some of my free time looking at wedding photo sites. I don't really have a concrete reason why. I think I just really enjoy looking at happy people. Even if I don't know them. I'll spend hours just going from one wedding site to another, looking at colors of flowers and bridesmaid dresses to the design of the wedding gown itself. I love it.

Well, I discovered today, that I have made it onto a wedding photo website. :) though it was just as a bridesmaid. That's me on the left at my cousin's wedding.

new obsession

I have discovered Scrabble on my cell phone. This is not a good thing. I thought I checked my phone often with Facebook. Now when I see my little blue light blinking, I am thinking what I can do with the letters Q, M and T. Great fun, my friends, great fun.

eyes

I have been having these wandering daydreams as of late. And I have been relishing the thoughts... and I thought I would write them down.

I have come to the decision that if I have not found "Mr. Right" by the time I am 40, I will look into adopting a baby. I just don't think I can go through this life and not be a Mommy. As I have come to the resolution, I have had a few day dreams. About having a little girl come home from school and hop off the bus, and come running. I ask how her day was, and we go in the house for a snack. Here is the beautiful part, every time I find myself having this "day dream" the little girl has Asian eyes.

I have found such joy in thinking of this future. It has gotten me out of the "funk" that I have been in for the past few weeks. And whether or not this is my future reality or just my day dream, I look forward to it.

not an equal opportunity chewer

I have another confession-- I am a gum bigot. It is a hard reality, but a true one.

It all started when they came out with fruity gum. And made them different colors. It just isn't normal. If i wanted to chew on something that tastes like fruit I would get a fruit roll up. Gum should be white and taste like mint. Not neon green and taste like key lime pie. I even think spearmint is pushing it. Gum is meant to freshen your breath, not take the place of Marie Calendar's pie or Strawberry Shortcake. Do the right thing- chew mint gum.

small world

Today at work, I had an amazing phone call.

I often get phone calls from hospitals confirming coverage for a patient. As I answered the call, the voice on the other side of the phone stated she was a nurse from Community Hospital in Munster, IN. That clicked with me, I am very familiar with that hospital because my mother spent a lot of time there while she was sick at the end of her life. As the phone call went on, I asked the nurse for her name to document the call, and she said, "Jodi". I was speaking to Nurse Jodi. She cared for my mother almost 10 years ago in that very hospital.

Life can come at you sideways and remind you of how small this world really is.
